The Nebraska Statewide Independent Living Council and the University of Nebraska Medical Center’s Munroe-Meyer Institute, acting as the Designated State Entity and authorized under the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, invites applications from government agencies, public universities and colleges, and private, nonprofit organizations, including community organizations to apply for a competitive grant of $102,173 for the time period of October 1, 2017-September 31, 2018.  The grant is to provide independent living services with/for people with disabilities in Scottsbluff, Sioux, Dawes, Banner, Sheridan, Kimball, Box Butte, Morrill, Garden, Deuel and Cheyenne counties. 

Grant funding is to provide the Core Independent Living Services required under the Rehab Act and amended by WIOA to include:

 

  • Information and Referral Services

  • Individual and Systems Advocacy

  • Peer-to-Peer Mentoring

  • Independent Living Skills Training

  • Transition Services which includes helping youth with disabilities transition from high school and individuals with disabilities transition from nursing homes

The Center for Independent Living will promote the philosophy of Independent Living (IL) and empowerment of people with disabilities to be full and active participants of their communities.  They must employ 51% of their staff to be people with disabilities and be governed by a Board who have direct connections to the communities served.

Any subsequent grant awards are contingent upon the grantee’s ability to demonstrate satisfactory performance and availability of Federal Independent Living Part B dollars.
